Sakic.net AJAX Register

Joomla Views writes an in-depth review of Sakic.net’s AJAX Register; a replacement registration plug-in for Joomla that puts an end to spam bots and makes the signup experience much nicer for your users.

The plugin does an on-the-fly field validation as your user registers for a new account, making sure that the intended username is not already taken; that the email address uses is a valid email address and gives you the option of two CAPTCHA engines.

You can either use the native CAPTCHA which is basic but still does the job just fine, or you can go with the black Cadillac of CAPTCHA engines, reCAPTCHA.

Using reCAPTCHA is free, all you need to do is register your account and create a public and private key and enter those into AJAX Register and you are ready to go; with reCAPTCHA you also get the option of four skins (clean, red, white and black glass).

The plugin is literally, plug-and-play, install it and it automatically replaces the native Joomla registration plugin without (!) any ugly core hacks.
